GATE 2015

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi,Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India.

Features of GATE 2015 :
1. Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.
2. Biometric information (Photograph and Fingerprints) for randomly selected candidates may be captured before the start of the examination.
3. GATE 2015 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 31st January 2015 and 14th February 2015. Examination for some of the papers in GATE 2015 will be held in multiple sessions. Exact details regarding complete examination schedule will be notified at a later date.
4. For GATE 2015 the entire process of filling up of application form, uploading of certificates/documents, etc., will be online and the candidates should not send any hard copy of their application form/documents, etc., to any of the IIT/IISc zonal GATE office
5. The payment of application fees would be online through different modes like net banking, debit/credit card, e-challan, etc.
6. The admit cards for GATE 2015 would be available through the online process only. Candidates can download their admit card from GATE 2015 website. No hard copy of admit cards will be posted to the candidates.
7. GATE 2015 score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.

IAS Exam Pattern

Scheme of Civil Services Examination

The Civil Services Examination consists of two successive stages -

1. Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
2. Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and post. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) each of 200 marks and carries a total of 400 marks. The question papers are set both in Hindi and English. Each paper is of two hours duration. Blind candidates are allowed extra time of twenty minutes for each paper.
   

Phase 1

This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only; the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be about twelve to thirteen times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year in the various Services and Posts. Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination in the year are eligible for writing the Main Examination of that year.

Syllabus of Paper I -(200 marks) Duration : Two hours

• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• General Science
• Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization

Syllabus for Paper II-(200 marks) Duration: Two hours

• Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.

Phase 2

Main Examination Syllabus (1750 Marks):

This phase will test your academic and intellectual talent in depth. It consists of 9 papers, in which two are qualifying papers of 300 marks each:

These two papers just need to qualify which is mandatory and marks obtained will not be considered or counted.

Language for the rest seven papers can be any of the languages mentioned in Eighth Schedule of the constitution or you can opt for English. Rest seven papers are mentioned below, each weighing 250 marks:

IBPS Probationary Officer

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection – IBPS conducts Common Written Examination (CWE) from the year 2011 for the recruitment of Probationary Officers/Management Trainees posts has been approved by each of the 19 participating public sector banks and managing committee of the Indian banks association (IBA). Selection Procedure: 
A Common Written Examination (CWE) will conducted by the institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for selection of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee posts in the 19 Public Sector Banks. It is a unique opportunity for candidates for a career in 19 Public Sector Banks through Common Written Examination. The Common Written Examination (CWE) for Probationary Officer/Management Trainee posts will be conducted twice in a year by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).

1. Eligible candidates have to apply through online application mode from the IBPS website.

2. Common Written Examination consists of two parts, one is objective type and second one is Descriptive paper total no. of questions is 250 and total marks 250, duration of 150 minutes for objective type questions and 60 minutes for Descriptive paper. 3. After Common Written Examination, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will give scorecards for qualifying candidates in CWE. The scorecards issued by IBPS will be valid for one year from the date of issue of the scorecards.

4. When the 19 Public Sector Banks gave their own Individual advertisement and determine eligibility details to apply for recruitment of particular Bank.

5. Based on scorecard the eligible candidates may apply for particular Bank advertisement and attend for interview with in one year issued of the scorecard. Each Bank will then individually short list candidates and carry out their own selection procedure.

1. Age Relaxation:

Computer Proficiency Test: Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) consists of Word Processing and Excel will also be held for candidates short listed on the basis of Paper-I and Paper-II/ Paper-III. Qualifying marks in word processing may be prescribed by the SSC at its discretion for evaluation of Excel Scripts, in which a separate qualifying standard will be prescribed.

Final Selection: Candidates who qualify in the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) will be eligible to be considered for final selection. Final selection will be on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in written exam.

5. Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in objective type Exam. If for any question a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as wrong Answer.

6. Cutoff Score: Each candidate will have to secure a minimum standardized score in each of the tests to qualify in the written examination and to be considered for vacancies in the participating banks. The cut-off points will be decided based on the average.

7. CWE Score Card: IBPS will print the Score Cards for each of the qualifying candidates only and will send the same by Registered/ Speed post to each candidate at the correspondence address specified in his/ her online application.

8. Validity of Score Card: Score Cards issued by IBPS will be valid for one year from the date of issue of the Score Card.
